VIVEK AND MOHINI

EPISODE 9:

At night after dancing through the camp fire, all the trip members were very tired and they all dozed off in their respective camp tents. In the morning, first Kaya and then all noticed that Vikrant was missing. The whole day passed in searching for him. The next day in the morning they registered a missing person's complaint in the local police station. Three days passed. But Vikrant was not to be found. All of them and teary eyed Kaya returned back to Mumbai. There was no trace of Vikrant. Two weeks later Kaya had fallen asleep while sitting in her balcony cane chair. Suddenly at 6 am in the morning, her mobile rang. She picked it up and... and... and it was Vikrant on the other side. Vikrant said that he was in Delhi and within half an hour will board a flight to Mumbai.
Two hours later, Vikrant rang her door bell. Kaya walked briskly and opened the door. Her moist eyes were seen by her father. She opened the door and hugged him. She was relieved and was crying. Monty brought him in. Sipping the hot cup of coffee on the sofa with Kaya, her both parents and Monty, he narrated what had happened and where he was in the past two weeks. "I couldn't get sleep on that particular night. So to kill time I prepared some coffee for myself. All the other members including the guide were fast asleep. After the coffee was prepared, I went to the sill of the cliff. Suddenly my mobile slipped from my hand and I tried to catch it again with my hands. But because I leaned ahead, I along with my mobile fell off the cliff. When I woke up few hours later, my mobile was lost and I couldn't move my left leg. I could sense, that it was broken. I dragged myself to the road. With no mobile and no guide, I didn't know where I was going. Finally a truck stopped by, they took me in. When I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital in Delhi. The doctor said that it was too late to save my leg. So they amputated my left leg. I didn't inform or call up any of my family members or friends including Kaya. After the jaipur foot was put on for four days I learnt to walk in it. Then I went to the Air force base and informed my bosses over there of this horrific development. I was confident that God won't be unkind to me. I had been in the IAF since the past four years. So I knew my job well. I was very much sure that even with the jaipur-foot, I could fly the jets. The IAF tested me, to check whether I could do my job well. They took four tests of mine. First and second, with an experienced IAF pilot sitting next to me and the last two with me alone flying the jets. I passed all their tests. So I'm of course still and will be of course in future also work actively in the IAF. I DIDN'T LOSE MY JOB. This gives me a nice feeling. He turned towards Kaya and winked at her. Vivek could sense how much Kaya and Vikrant loved each other. But he didn't ask his daughter and Vikrant anything about this.
Later while having dinner with his wife, son and daughter he remarked with a smile, "He is a good boy. A fauji(soldier), a brave soldier of India, wow !"
